Fall Trends To Look Out For: Houndstooth
Hello and Happy Tuesday fashion lovers, I hope that you all have enjoyed your three day weekend and were safe while doing so.
I was watching one of my favorite YouTuber Niki Sky and she was going over her favorite Fall Fashion Trends and one of her favorite trends was Houndstooth. Houndstooth is by far the most fashionable prints in fashion in the whole world and I'm absolutely HERE FOR IT. Houndstooth, hounds tooth check or hound's tooth. It's also known as dogs tooth, dogtooth, dog's tooth, or pied-de-poule, is a duotone textile pattern characterized by broken checks or abstract four-pointed shapes, often in black and white, although other colors are used. The classic houndstooth pattern is an example of a tessellation. A smaller-scale version of the pattern can be referred to as puppy tooth.
The oldest known occurrence of houndstooth is the Gerum Cloak, a garment uncovered in a Swedish peat bog, dated to between 360 and 100 BC. Contemporary houndstooth checks may have originated as a pattern in woven tweed cloth from the Scottish Lowlands, but are now used in many other woven fabric aside from wool. The traditional houndstooth check is made with alternating bands of four dark and four light threads in both warp and weft/filling woven in a simple 2:2 twill, two over/two under the warp, advancing one thread each pass. In an early reference to houndstooth, De Pinna, a New York City-based men's and women's high-end clothier founded in 1885, included houndstooth checks along with gun club checks and Scotch plaids as part of its 1933 spring men's suits collection. The actual term houndstooth for the pattern is not recorded before 1936.
Oversized houndstooth patterns were also employed prominently at Alexander McQueen's Fall 2009 Collection, entitled Horn of Plenty. The patterns were a reference to Christian Dior's signature tweed suits.
Rodarte is one of my favorite fashion designers, I love the way that they blend modern and feminine in all of their designs and every collection is absolutely STUNNING and their Fall/Winter 2020-21 Ready-To-Wear Collection was no exception. I need this dress in my closet right not, what I love about this dress is the puffy sleeves, the cinched waist, and the red and turquoise houndstooth.
I saw this blazer by River Island via ASOS, and I would love to wear this blazer for the Fall and Winter. This blazer is on sale for $69.15 from $113.00 and it would be a great addition to you closet.
The Chanel Fall/Winter 2019-20 Haute Couture Collection knew that Houndstooth was going to be on trend for Fall 2020.
I know for some of you that Houndstooth is a little too much, but I want you too get out of your comfort zone and try this trend out for yourself. I hope that all of you have enjoyed this blog post for this Tuesday, I love you all so much and until next time, Stay Beautiful.
