February is Black History Month and I feel that it's my duty as a Black fashion blogger to let you lovely people know about some amazing black-owned fashion designers and brands to let you guys know about. To start out this month of Black Owned fashion brands, Maisoneli is a brand that was introduced to me by the Instagram page, Black Owned Everything. This brand is a firm believer in craftsmanship, they spent hours understanding the skills and intricacies of traditional leather craftsmanship, thereby refining their skill set. They successfully translated their creativity and deep understanding of leather into developing stylish, functional, and sophisticated pieces under the Maison Eli line. 

They sourced leather tanned with vegetable and fruit extracts. In its infancy, the brand focused solely on footwear for children. After quickly achieving success in that field they answered the demands for an adult leather line. Quality and sustainability are the keys to Maison Eli's philosophy. When they were looking for their main material they were adamant that they wanted to source something local in keeping with their ethos. Their tannery is a short drive from their studio. The hides are the by-product of the meat industry.
