On My Fashion Wishlist: Nuaei Ana Tote Bag.
Yes, I'm back, and I just had to talk to you again because I love you so much—and who doesn’t love chatting about fashion?
While reading an article on the Grazia website about must-have work bags, I came across the Ana Tote Bag from a brand I’d never heard of before called Nuaei. I enjoy discovering new handbag brands to share, just like today. So for my second fashion blog post of the day, I thought I’d talk about my first love—handbags—and perhaps you could consider adding this one to your work bag rotation.
One evening, gathered around the dinner table, Māma, our grandmother, began sharing stories of the years she spent weaving in China. It was a craft she had mastered long before any of us were born, one we never knew she possessed. Craft had quietly flowed through our family for generations, and nuãei grew from that night, born from a desire to preserve her story and keep her artistry alive.
That craft carried our family all the way to England—her hands, her patience, and the quiet independence it gave her. Her brother James and Belinda began this in her honor, once known as Wicker Wings. What started with one craft grew into a search for others: rare weaves preserved across Asia, and the women who have mastered them, just as Mama once did. They wanted to bring their artistry into the spotlight, placing in your hands a bag unlike any other—the kind that turns heads and sparks conversation.
When we set out to grow the brand into something bigger, they asked Mama for a name. She chose Nüwa, the Chinese goddess who shaped the world from the gifts of the earth and kept family at its core. It captured everything they dreamed of creating, wrapped in a single word. Nuãei is for her—and for you.
Full-grain leather, cut into strips and hand-braided with care, creates a bag that’s structured without a rigid frame. It develops a rich patina over time, becoming more beautiful the longer it’s carried. Mendong, a fast-growing grass from Indonesia’s wetlands, is cut, soaked for weeks to soften, dried, and woven by families who have mastered the craft for generations. Leather is woven through the grass, keeping it feather-light while maintaining its shape. Soft to the touch, with a subtle sheen, it’s designed for everyday use rather than special occasions. Rattan, a renewable vine from the Indonesian rainforest, takes years to mature before being harvested by hand. No trees are cut in the process. The outer layer is stripped, the cane split to the perfect thickness, sun-dried, and woven into timeless shapes that define us.
The Ana Tote Bag is crafted from full-grain leather, featuring delicately handwoven straps and a softly dipped V-neckline. Spacious enough to carry everything you need for the day and stylish enough to turn heads, it’s perfect for everything from morning meetings to evening plans. This bag comes with a dust bag, is also available in black, and is priced at $595.00.
