On My Fashion Wishlist: Warren Steven Scott.
Happy Monday, fashion enthusiasts! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are doing well. Mondays might not be the best, but our outfits can definitely make them better!
I came across an article on the Elle Canada website about Indigenous fashion designers, and I saw some earrings by Warren Steven Scott. I absolutely love their boldness, so I just had to share this designer with you so you can check them out too.
Warren Steven Scott is a contemporary accessory and fashion designer, as well as a skilled craftsperson. He launched his label in 2018. Born in 1988 in White Rock, B.C., Scott is part of the Nlaka’pamux Nation, whose land lies in the interior of modern-day British Columbia, with both Sts’ailes and British ancestry. As a child, Scott immersed himself in North American and European fashion, obsessively flipping through magazines and watching the iconic Canadian TV show, Fashion File. He admired designers who crafted fantastical, other-worldly garments, which opened a window for him to imagine an alternative and seemingly unattainable lifestyle.
After a short stint at a local college studying horticulture, Scott discovered his passion for fashion. He left school with an open mind and a plan to chase his dream of designing clothes. Teaching himself to sew while preparing his first portfolio, Scott enrolled at Ryerson University in 2011, where he later earned a Bachelor of Design in Fashion. With support from his Band and two bursaries from Indspire, he pursued his education. Post-graduation, Scott interned with renowned Canadian designers Jeremy Laing and Comrags, where he gained valuable formal training.
Scott’s debut collection, Sissy, was showcased at the first-ever Indigenous Fashion Arts Festival in Toronto, founded by Indigenous artist and innovator Sage Paul. The collection blends the Western idea of luxury fashion with his ancestral perspective on ethics, craftsmanship, and aesthetics, offering a unique contribution to authentic Canadian fashion. Scott’s designs present a contemporary vision of fashion through an Indigenous lens. The Sissy woman embodies cuteness, fluidity, and desirability, reflecting a sense of girlishness and familial sisterhood.
The Gold Flakes feature sporadic clusters of gold flakes suspended in clear acrylic. These innovative acrylics are Italian-made using 100% recycled raw materials. I can’t help but swoon over these stunning flake pieces. These are priced at $52.00.
To my wonderful readers, I hope you loved this fashion blog post about this Indigenous fashion designer. Your support truly means the world to me, and until next time, Stay Beautiful.
